Liquid Disk Bearing Grease Cups |
As part of the APEC Product Improvement program, multiple design changes are being incorporated into the Mistcoater. The first of those changes is the utilization of automatic grease cups for the lower and upper liquid disk bearings. Using these insures that the bearings will always be supplied with the proper amount of grease to help prolong their life. Retrofit kits for existing Mistcoater units are available. Use the link below to contact APEC about the grease cups. |

Proximity Sensor Replaces Potentiometer |
Design change #2 was the replacement of the level sensor potentiometer with a proximity sensor. In the past the Mistcoater "Keep Full" level sensor utilized a mechanical potentiometer to provide the signal for the VFD that controls the speed of the mixing conveyor screws. The new design combines an analog proximity sensor with an eccentric cam attached to the level control main shaft. Powered by 24 volt DC, the sensor reads the distance between the cam and itself. As that distance changes, the sensor then sends a 4-20mA signal to the VFD which speeds up or slows down the mixing conveyor screws. Retrofit kits for existing Mistcoater units are available. Use the link below to contact APEC about the proximity sensor.

True Close Tolerance Construction Achieved |
Design change #3 involves improvements to the mixing conveyor trough and screw construction methods. Those changes allow us to provide a mixing conveyor with true close tolerances between the screw and trough. A rigid skeletal frame was created for the mixing conveyor by increasing the size of the side tube member and incorporating intermediate bulkheads. This creates a rigid framework to draw the trough sidewalls to. This rigid framework insures the trough is constructed straight and true thereby eliminating variations in the shape of the trough. The second step of this change was to machine turn the screws in order to achieve a consistent and true diameter. At assembly, minimal hand grinding is needed to finish fit the screws to the trough. These two improvements now allow a close tolerance machine to have an edge-of-screw-flight to trough clearance of 1/16". This tight clearance virtually eliminates all product pinch points and allows the screw to sweep the trough clean at the end of a run. Those are two benefits that are especially important to the pet food producers. |
